A Map to Remember
The guild map was such an important aspect of the tool to us as whole. It is what truly ties in the community with their physical space. Knowing this, we took our time and found a map solution that seemed to have all of the answers for us - Mapbox.
Mapbox, while providing much to us as creators from the very beginning, also has a very deep level of complexity. It gives you extreme control over everything from the style of the geography and roadways, down to the markers and other regions that you may want to highlight. Thankfully for us, it also had fantastic documentation that guided our molding hands.
A Future for Gaming Communities
Clay McCoy, who was with Trident Creative at the time, came to my software company with the concept of “The Guild.” Since then, our companies merged and we began what has turned into quite the journey in creating what we hope will be the future web application of choice for gaming communities.
We knew this application would have much to it, and we would have to custom code it ourselves. Using React and Flask as our guide for a Full-Stack web development experience, we embarked on the journey of our lifetime.
Technologies

Javascript is an absolutely critical frontend language for the Guild Gaming project. We use it for just about everything via React. Whether it be interacting and creating HTML/CSS content in JSX, adding dynamic aspects to the flow of the site, or even communication with our backend - Javascript does it all!

Python is the backbone for our backend integrating with Flask. It’s personally my favorite language and we found it to create a very simplistic flow for our developers. Pairing it alongside useful and necessary packages, we’ve been able to achieve success with Python!

The Guild Gaming web application was built using React. It took thousands of lines of javascript code to reach the point it is at today.

Flask is an extremely lightweight Python framework that we chose for Guild Gaming. It is what builds up our backend servers and API, and certainly something I’ve spent a lot of time working with in our development process.

SQLAlchemy was a necessary tool to ease the interaction between SQL databases and our python backend with flask.

Mapbox was a very important integration for this site. The map is integral to the success of the overall tool. Mapbox was the solution we found and ran with - and it took us far.
