Ankhor

You have awoken in a hospital, only to find things are not as you expected. Can you find your way out?

This game was created in Unity utilizing C#.

Ankhor is a VR Stealth Horror game for the HTC Vive developed a team of three programmers (including myself), an audio engineer, a character artist, an environment artist, and a level designer. This game was created in Unity utilizing C#. My duties included creating the tutorial, initializing both teleportation and locomotion for the player, setting up in-game menus, working with player-environment interaction, working with the level designer to create frightening events, working with the audio engineer to make Wwise work properly, and setting up the VR systems at numerous playtests.

Technologies

  • We decided to go with Unity for this project. I am very happy we did this as it gave me a fantastic opportunity to really get to know the engine, especially when trying to program for VR. Challenges like implementing locomotion in VR were an amazing experience that taught me much about the engine.

  • C# is Unity’s language of choice. While it is certainly similar enough to languages like C, C++, and Java, it is unique in its own ways. Ankhor was a wonderful opportunity to be able to build experience within C#. I personally had a tremendous experience with it and understand why it is revered by Unity Developers!

  • The Unity SteamVR Plugin was a must-have for a starting place for Ankhor. This gave us the perfect foothold for telportation as well as VR hands and body. From here, we were able to build custom code on top of the plugin and alter as necessary to fit what we needed for Ankhor’s movement and overall experience.
